Online Pharmacy Technician Program (NHA ExCPT / CPhT)

The curriculum covers the material the NHA ExCPT is written from, so your study time counts toward both the exam and the job.

• Pharmacology and the most-prescribed medications, brand and generic names, and how they work
• Pharmacy law, ethics, and the regulations that govern the technician role
• Reading, entering, and processing prescriptions and medication orders accurately
• Dosage calculations, measurement, and pharmacy math
• Sterile and non-sterile compounding fundamentals
• Inventory control, insurance and billing basics, and patient safety

Everything is delivered online through the TPSTA Classroom. You read, watch, and test on your own schedule with up to one year of access, so you can move as fast or as steadily as your life allows. There is no clinical rotation and no campus visit required, which is what makes the program open to students nationwide. A payment plan is available.

This program fits career-changers, students who want a fast paid entry into healthcare, current pharmacy clerks who want to certify, and anyone who needs to study around a job or family. No prior healthcare experience is required. You should be comfortable studying independently online, since the program is self-paced.

Completing the program makes you eligible to sit for the NHA ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians). Passing earns the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential, which many employers recognize and many states accept toward pharmacy technician registration or licensure. National certification does not by itself authorize you to work in every state, so read the state-licensure disclosure below and confirm the rules where you plan to work.

Our Pharmacy Technician program is approved by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and prepares you to sit for the NHA ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians) for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential.

Working as a pharmacy technician is regulated at the state level, and the rules vary significantly:

• Every state has its own Board of Pharmacy (or equivalent) that sets who may work as a pharmacy technician.
• Some states require national certification (such as NHA ExCPT or PTCB), some require only state registration or licensure, and some add training, background-check, or fingerprinting steps.
• Holding an NHA ExCPT certification does not by itself authorize you to work in every state. You must still meet the specific requirements of the state where you intend to work.

It is your responsibility to research and confirm the current requirements of the state (or states) where you plan to work, before and after completing this program. Requirements can and do change. We recommend that you:

• Visit the official website of the Board of Pharmacy for the state(s) where you intend to practice.
• Verify whether national certification is required, accepted, or preferred.
• Confirm any additional steps (state registration, application fees, background checks, continuing education).
• Contact the state board directly if you have questions.
